Workshops

Tools to Bring:  In most cases, everything necessary to complete a project will be provided for you for each Workshop.  If there are additional supplies or materials required, they will be listed in the Workshop Description and/or you will be provided with a list at the time of your registration.  Snacks and bottled water are supplied with each Workshop.

  • Basic Craft Kit (BCK) – craft mat; scissors; paper trimmer; heat gun; favorite wet adhesives; ink blending tools; distress inks (Vintage Photo, Tea Dye, Black Soot); ruler; pencil; paper or small notebook
  • Advanced Craft Kit (ACK) – everything from the Basic Craft Kit above, but also includes X-Acto knife; cutting mat; brayer; bone folder; water spritzer or mini mister; moist towelettes or baby wipes; wooden toothpicks; sanding block or emery boards; Crop-A-Dile; stapler; tape runner or glue sticks; pop-up dots.

Please note that photos of any Workshop project as seen on the Website, Blog, Facebook, or other social media may vary from the actual project.  As well, project samples may also vary from actual projects.  While we do our best to provide students with materials needed to create projects as they’ve been depicted, these revisions may be required due to changes in product or availability of products from manufacturers, and are outside our control.  It may also become necessary for a Teacher to alter the design of the actual project to accommodate these changes.

“Tag, You’re It!” Workshop with Mary French

Thursday, August 24, 2017           10:00am – 1:00pm            Cost: $25.00

Help us welcome the newest addition to our family, Mary French, of The French Market!  Join Mary for a fun-filled morning as you make one-of-a-kind artistic tags while exploring the many facets of Distress Inks and the new Distress Oxide Inks.  Learn the difference between the two and the magic they can bring to your projects.  Your journey will take you from a blank tag to beautifully embellished backgrounds featuring your favorite quotes and ephemera.  To make your tags truly unique, bring your favorite stamps, quotes, and ephemera for that one-of-a-kind look.  Mary will also share tips and tricks on how to add color to ribbons and muslin to coordinate perfectly with your tags using these wonderful inks.  She’ll also show you how to use bits and pieces of recycled papers, cards, and even napkins, for added pizzaz!  You’ll leave the Workshop with 3 or 4 completed tags, or more as time permits, that you can use as reference how-to’s, decorations for other projects, bookmarks for your favorite book, or as a unique card to send someone special.  Let your inner child come out and play as you get “messy” and creative with these wonderful inks!  SEATING IS LIMITED, so make your reservations early to join in the fun!

Supplies to Bring:  Basic Craft Kit {see above}, including craft sheet; scissors; heat gun; collage medium; your favorite wet adhesive; Scor-Tape; foam tape or other dimensional adhesive; water spritzer or mini mister; your favorite color palette of Distress Inks, Distress Oxide Inks, Paints, Markers, & Crayons; ink blending tool & extra foams for inks; foam brush for collage medium; small paint or splatter brush; any favorite stamps, quotes, & ephemera; and apron (optional).  All other supplies and materials will be provided.

“Art Journal Folio” Workshop with Dina Wakley

Are you ready for an artful escape?  Join Dina as you create a unique and colorful Art Journal Folio.  You’ll start with a Tim Holtz idea-ology blank folio.  You’ll use gesso, paint, masks, and stencils to alter it using Dina’s stencils and acrylic paints.  Then you’ll create meaningful pages with paint, stamps, and stencils to go inside the folio.  You’ll add quotes and imagery that make your folio explode with color and meaning.  Unique and expressive, this will be a day full of art techniques with a beautiful project as the end results.  You’ll want to make your reservations early because SEATING IS EXTREMELY LIMITED, and seats are beginning to fill already!  Call to save your space before it sells out!

“Multi-Surfaced Journal Exploration” Workshop with Dina Wakley

The new Media Journal is full of varied, interesting surfaces ~ burlap, canvas, kraft, and handmade watercolor paper.  Come to this Workshop to play and explore all the surfaces.  A journal is included in the Workshop cost!  You will stamp, stencil, paint, cut, print, tip in, tear, and have a great day of journaling, playing, and experimenting.  You’ll want to make your reservations early because SEATING IS EXTREMELY LIMITED, and seats are beginning to fill already!  Call to save your space before it sells out!

“BYOP Folio Album” Workshop with Sherry Bamsey

Tuesday, August 29, 2017           10:00am – 2:00pm            Cost: $20.00

Join Sherry as she joins the folio madness craze in the next Workshop of her BYOP Series.  This is a quick and easy project that is perfect for those times when you have a limited number of photos.  Makes perfect little gifts for family and friends, especially for family in care facilities or rehab units.  All the necessary materials to build a basic folio will be supplied in your project kit, ready for you to decorate with your favorite patterned paper.  Your finished folio will be 8″ x 5-1/2″ with a 6 page waterfall with space to hold 12, 4” x4”photos.  Your folio will feature 2 booklet type flaps designed to hold 4, 4”x4’ photos.  To decorate your finished folio, you’ll need at least 10-12 sheets of your favorite 12″x12″ papers (paper used in samples are Echo Park’s new collection, “Just Be You”, Photo Play “Matilda and Godfrey”, and Photo Play “Falling Leaves”).  As with all of Sherry’s exciting Workshops, you’ll want to make your reservations early because seats sell out fast!

“Zombies ‘n More Zombies . . . Oh, Yeah!” Workshop with Pollie Coleman

Who’s ready for Halloween?  Join our very own Queen of Halloween as she brings you another project to sink your teeth in!  In this Workshop, you’ll take your mixed media skills to the creepy side, enhance your techniques using texture paste, and layering fun items such as texture boulders, pebbles, and sand, as well as starburst sprays and adding highlights.  Work on your embossing techniques with the die cut zombie and dust off your Shrinky Dinks skills by creating all sorts of spooky characters.  Lastly, learn how to turn those Zombies and spooky characters into a puppet show to create a one-of-a-kind piece that everyone will love!  Everything you’ll need to construct your project will be available in the Workshop, but if you have anything special you’d like to add, please feel free to bring it with you.  SEATING IS LIMITED so make your reservations early to be sure to save your seat for this chilling adventure!

“Personal Pocket Planners” Workshop with Charmaine

“ATC Trade & Swap”

ATCs, or Artist Trading Cards, are all the rage!  Create 15 cards at home at your own pace, on your own schedule . . . all the same or each one different . . . based on your choice of four different themes.  Then join us at this monthly NO CHARGE event and have fun as you trade with other artists.  Pick just 1, or mix-and-match from 2, 3, or all 4 themes, but start “thinking big in a small way”.  From experienced to novice, you’ll definitely want to see what it’s all about for yourself!  Come and share with others, or just stop in and see what’s going on with other artists, ask questions, share information, have fun, or simply become inspired!  Call for more details, but we look forward to seeing you there!

Who said that you could only make a book using expensive supplies?  This is the ultimate Workshop in recycling and creativity!  You’ll turn trash into a new journal with fun fold out pages.  After you’ve assembled your book, you’ll journey through a plethora of new techniques in painting, collage, and art journaling.  Think you’ve seen it all?  Eager to get messy and learn something new?  Join Kelly and spend some time on our own unique voyage through the world of paint, paper and creative exploration.

Supplies to Bring:  Basic Craft Kit (BCK), including craft or nonstick sheet; scissors; apron; bone folder; cork back metal ruler; roll of paper towels or old rags; permanent black ink pad (only if you have one); container for paint water; 1″ to 2″ paint brush for glue and paint (Kelly suggests chip or bristle brushes), as well as a few smaller, detail brushes; your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last longer); roll of waxed paper or an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don’t want to use all of your waxed paper); small selection of your favorite collage ephemera*; and any catalogs with thick papers or anything with thick/heavy paper that you’d want to use as a journal (Kelly suggests old mailers, college brochures, nice catalogs, etc.  Kelly will have some to use, but some people like to bring their own stash to use up.).  All other materials and supplies will be provided.

“Juicy Journal Pages” Workshop with Kelly Kilmer

In this special Workshop, you’ll work quick and fast, without judgment, the idea being to keep your inner critic silent.  You’ll create a series of pages that are unique to you while learning a variety of new layering techniques involving collage, acrylics, markers, stencils, stamps, and more.  After some time spent creating this way, you’ll step back and think about your pages.  You’ll learn to look and process your pages with new eyes.  You’ll then rework your pages into all new original journal pages.

“Untold Stories” Workshop with Kelly Kilmer

This journal is the ultimate in play.  Kelly tells us that she’s always looking for new ways to revitalize her favorite techniques.  Think lush layers of paint, paper, tape, stencils, pen work, and more all bound into little bundles of creativity.  You’ll start the Workshop by creating rich layers of painted pages.  You’ve only just begun as you step back, revisit your pages, and start to think about how you can assemble them into books.  Before the tearing and the binding begin, you’ll go through and collage your pages (Kelly will show you how to collage them so that when you fold and assemble them you will have pages ready for you to work on.)  After you’ve finished assembling your journal, you’ll step back again and learn techniques for on the go or art journaling using minimal supplies.

“Visual Journal Pages as Narrative” Workshop with Kelly Kilmer

Where do you start when you put pen to paper?  How do you translate what’s in your head to your visual art journal pages?  How do you combine the visual with the written word?  Learn to combine paper, paint, and pen to create visually expressive and unique journal pages.  In this Workshop, you’ll learn a plethora of layering techniques using not only your pens and markers but also paint, paper, and more.  Think that you know what there is to putting your heart onto paper?  Think again.  Kelly first developed this Workshop to challenge herself and now she’s challenging you.  Bring your journal and supplies listed below (Kelly will have plenty of art supplies to share because she doesn’t travel light!) and be prepared to spill out onto the page.
